Honey for a Child's Heart

When I was pregnant, my mom passed on a copy of Honey for a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt. I did not really think much of it at the time and simply placed it on my bookshelf to read later. Well, after going to the library the other day with Jack to pick out some books, I became overwhelmed with all of the selections. Which ones are good? Which ones are appropriate for his age and development? Which ones don't have slang and other words that I am not ready for Jack to learn yet? After picking out a few favorites that I remembered from growing up, I decided to head home and start reading Honey for a Child's Heart. I love it!!! It describes the importance of reading and making it a family activity and priority. She writes from a Christian perspective and even has a chapter on the importance of daily Bible reading. She describes how words can express God's beauty and imagination and awaken great emotions and understanding of truth. At the end there is a Bibliography that lists books your children should enjoy, grouped by age/grade level. This is a must read, and I just wanted to share!

Blog Buttons

I was on my friend Amie's blog and clicked on one of her blog buttons where I clicked on another blog button which led me to this really cool site called "no more time for flashcards" (click on my blog button to check it out!). Anyhow, I am very excited about implementing some of her ideas with Jack like the letter of the week activities. She has cool crafts to go with each letter and ideas on how to discuss and focus on that letter for the week. I am super excited about trying it out because Jack is starting to love to color, loves reading and loves learning. Being a high school teacher, I was not quite sure as to how to go about teaching a preschooler, but I am so glad that there on so many blogs and websites with all of these fun ideas!!! Yeah!

Grandma & Grandpa K come to visit!

Fun times at the Children's museum with Grandma & Grandpa! Our visit there was cut short due to a gas leak, but we still had a great time!

My parents came down last week for a quick visit, and we had such a wonderful time! Jack enjoyed so much spending time with them...he still asks about them especially upon waking up from a nap or in the morning. He says, "Grandma, Grandpa Go?" And then seems to answer his own question by saying, "airport." It is too cute!

I must share this precious story about them! It takes Jack a little while to wake up from his nap in the afternoon. He is usually a little grumpy upon waking and needs time to adjust. Well, this past weekend when Jack would wake, Ryan would sit with him in the t.v. room with his snack and they would watch the Elegant Universe together. I wish I had captured a picture of them

watching and learning all about all the different types of forces from gravity to electromagnetism, string theory and hidden dimensions. They were really into it! Jack especially loved watching an experiment with the sun and a compass (not sure what that was about) and Einstein. Anyone who knows Ryan knows how much he loves interesting mathematical concepts that explain the laws of our universe, and I know he especially loved sharing it with Jack!

April Ranch Weekend

We traveled to the ranch this past weekend and had a wonderful time! Jack has a blast there and spends every waking moment outside. Ryan's parents just hung a longhorn bull head over the fireplace and named him Manuel. Anyhow, Jack was quite frightened of Manuel and when we would ask him if he wanted to see him, Jack would say, "No, Manuel scary." It was the first time I have ever heard him express his emotions by using the word scary. By the end of the trip, he warmed up to Manuel and frequently asks about him. Jack loved throwing rocks in the pond (he was soaking wet after throwing rocks & sticks in the water...he certainly is all boy), going on rides and of course, visiting all of the windmills. He LOVES windmills!!!

After celebrating the resurrection of our Savior on Easter, we headed to the Stotler's for a wonderful lunch and Easter Egg hunt. We had such a fabulous time! Jack enjoyed playing with Blakely and Davis and the food (and desserts!) were delicious!!!

The Saturday before Easter we traveled to San Marcos to celebrate Sunday's (Ryan's cousin) baby that is on the way! We had a great time with the Trujillo family and it was especially great seeing Ryan's Grandma. It was also so good to see Critter and Barbara since we have not seen them since Christmas. Jack loved seeing his Grandma & Grandpa M; he gave Critter the biggest hug and kiss goodbye and sweetly said, "I love you, Grandma." It was too precious!!
