Memorial Day Weekend Fun!

We had a super fun time at the ranch Memorial Day weekend. The weather was perfect....not too hot, not too cold! We did many things including celebrating Grandma M's birthday and helping her set up her Wii, spending some good time with Critter and Barb, and showing Jack how to fish. Ryan and I were able to get some alone time on the ranch for an anniversary ride and sunset. Ryan made a special playlist on the ipod, which we listened to and enjoyed on the tailgate. However, we left the AC running and the lights on; so when we went to start up the truck to head home, it did not start up! We called Ryan's dad and he came to give us a jump!

8 Years!!!

It is so hard to believe that Ryan and I have been married 8 years! Time certainly has flown and it amazing to look back and reflect upon all that God has done in our life and where he has taken us over the past 8 years. We had a special anniversary dinner together at one of our favorite restaurants called Perry's. Ryan also sent yellow roses and a flower similar to bluebonnets on the day of our anniversary. They were beautiful! The sight of them always brings back such wonderful memories of our wedding day....those flowers will always be so special to me!

Lisa's visit

My sister Lisa came to visit a few weeks ago (I am just now uploading pics!), and we had such a fun time together! We did lots of shopping (outlet mall, galleria, katy mills, charming charlie's....), worked out and ate some great food! Jack enjoyed spending time with his Aunt Lisa too! It was very special sharing my home with Lisa and letting her see what life was like for us in our neck of the woods.

Honey for a Child's Heart

When I was pregnant, my mom passed on a copy of Honey for a Child's Heart by Gladys Hunt. I did not really think much of it at the time and simply placed it on my bookshelf to read later. Well, after going to the library the other day with Jack to pick out some books, I became overwhelmed with all of the selections. Which ones are good? Which ones are appropriate for his age and development? Which ones don't have slang and other words that I am not ready for Jack to learn yet? After picking out a few favorites that I remembered from growing up, I decided to head home and start reading Honey for a Child's Heart. I love it!!! It describes the importance of reading and making it a family activity and priority. She writes from a Christian perspective and even has a chapter on the importance of daily Bible reading. She describes how words can express God's beauty and imagination and awaken great emotions and understanding of truth. At the end there is a Bibliography that lists books your children should enjoy, grouped by age/grade level. This is a must read, and I just wanted to share!

Blog Buttons

I was on my friend Amie's blog and clicked on one of her blog buttons where I clicked on another blog button which led me to this really cool site called "no more time for flashcards" (click on my blog button to check it out!). Anyhow, I am very excited about implementing some of her ideas with Jack like the letter of the week activities. She has cool crafts to go with each letter and ideas on how to discuss and focus on that letter for the week. I am super excited about trying it out because Jack is starting to love to color, loves reading and loves learning. Being a high school teacher, I was not quite sure as to how to go about teaching a preschooler, but I am so glad that there on so many blogs and websites with all of these fun ideas!!! Yeah!

Grandma & Grandpa K come to visit!

Fun times at the Children's museum with Grandma & Grandpa! Our visit there was cut short due to a gas leak, but we still had a great time!

My parents came down last week for a quick visit, and we had such a wonderful time! Jack enjoyed so much spending time with them...he still asks about them especially upon waking up from a nap or in the morning. He says, "Grandma, Grandpa Go?" And then seems to answer his own question by saying, "airport." It is too cute!

I love them so much!

I must share this precious story about them! It takes Jack a little while to wake up from his nap in the afternoon. He is usually a little grumpy upon waking and needs time to adjust. Well, this past weekend when Jack would wake, Ryan would sit with him in the t.v. room with his snack and they would watch the Elegant Universe together. I wish I had captured a picture of them

watching and learning all about all the different types of forces from gravity to electromagnetism, string theory and hidden dimensions. They were really into it! Jack especially loved watching an experiment with the sun and a compass (not sure what that was about) and Einstein. Anyone who knows Ryan knows how much he loves interesting mathematical concepts that explain the laws of our universe, and I know he especially loved sharing it with Jack!
